It’s actually quite funny when men say it’s hard to shop for women, when in fact, they are the hard ones to gift. They don’t communicate what they may like or have the most complicated interests that you are incapable of buying them something without their input. In these cases, what do you get dad for father’s day?
Let’s brainstorm and do some detective work to figure this out!
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Is he a beer or alcohol drinker?
- Buy him his favorite beer or wine
- Order him a personalized beer mug or bottle opener
- Research cocktail mixing or bartending 101 classes where he can what to prepare with his favorite liquors
- Is he a handy-type of guy who like to fix things around the house?
- I’m not saying head to home depot and buy the latest power tool. You’ll most likely get it wrong. But you can give him a gift card and say it’s with the intention of buying the tool he mentioned to fix X around the house.
- Does he enjoy grilling?
- He can always use new bbq tools and accessories. A bag or case to hold all his utensils.
- A personalized or funny apron for grilling purposes is a great option too!
- Is he a foodie?
- You really can’t go wrong with cooking his favorite meal at home.
- Take him to his favorite restaurant. He’ll love to finally not have to pay at a restaurant for the family. But don’t go to a restaurant that Sunday, the wait times are long and the food quality is poor because of the rush.
As much as moms would like to be left alone for mother’s day, I’m sure dad’s have a similar feeling. No nagging for a day, no asking when something is going to get done or built, no kids climbing all over him, and to sleep in.

There’s always the kid created gifts, but I wouldn’t default to this because kids usually come home from school with something they did in art class. And those cards and pictures tend to get lost or ruined unless mom puts it in a safe place. My husband’s Valentine’s day picture from the girls is still sitting under a huge pile of old mail. Not that dad’s don’t appreciate these sentiments, they just put things aside and forget about them.
However, if the kids are set on making dad a hand crafted card then let them!
I like to include the kids in different ways. Like by helping me disastrously make breakfast, filling out the card that may accompany a gift, or letting them pick something out for him that’s small. Head to Five Below, Dollar Tree, or Walmart for something quick and easy. Give them a budget of less than $10 and have fun! It’s a great activity to keep them entertained for a while and they’ll be really happy doing it.
