Don’t know what to get your Valentine for the day of love and friendship? Then let me help you brainstorm a few ideas that may fall under the three categories: big and flashy, small and sentimental or fun and sexy.
Valentine’s Day is literally right around the corner. As the next gift holiday after Christmas and Hanukkah, it can be difficult to find something perfect for your significant other. It’s okay if you’re still unsure. Just need to figure out what you want to do.
Do you go big and flashy, small and sentimental or fun and sexy? I’m going to help you brainstorm a few potential ideas for your day.
Big and Flashy

Many think jewelry for Valentine’s Day. You can definitely buy necklaces, bracelets or the infamous engagement ring. Maybe give this obvious gift a twist by making him or her do a scavenger hunt to find it. Or hide it at the bottom of box full of various small items from the dollar store like candy. Make it fun for them!
Red Roses are also an obvious choice for Valentine’s Day. But think about how much you’re spending on those flowers. It’s possible you could invest that money on something more meaningful. Think about your Valentine and what she would prefer over a dozen roses that are going to die in a few days. HOWEVER!….no woman will ever turn down red roses. It will always bring a smile to her face.
Whereas the above it probably more suited for a female recipient, women can gift their boyfriends/husbands watches or the usual electronic gift. You can still make it interesting by putting it on a display in the house and timing how long it takes him to notice. You’ll get a big laugh out of his torment… I promise!
Small and Sentimental

Many think that ‘small’ means a box of chocolate and a teddy bear from the local pharmacy. There is really nothing wrong with that! Most of time funds only allow for that. But let me ask you this, does your partner still have that teddy bear from last year? Was it given to a nephew, donated or thrown out? Especially if they were one of those giant, obnoxious stuffed animals.
Yupp, definitely thrown out.
You can still gift candy. But try different brands this time and combine them in a box or bag; something that you don’t need a map to avoid the coconut filling.
You can also go the handmade, custom gift route. These gifts are usually on the more personal side. Shows you really put thought into the gift because even though it’s small, it has more meaning. The crafty scrapbooks, handmade cards or Pinterest inspired “52 Reasons Why I Love You” gifts. The amount of time spent in creating the gift is more valuable than the dollar amount. These gifts get you thinking about why you’re with this person, why you love them, what their interests are, what will make them happy, what will make them smile, etc. You will look back on your time together and maybe fall even more in love. Some people choose to do the “5 Senses” themed gifts where you buy your partner a gift in relation to all 5 senses to show how much you care.
Fun and Sexy

Of course Valentine’s Day is most commonly known as the holiday of romance. Romance can mean a lot of things and people have different definitions of the word. It can be a candle lit dinner, chocolate fondue or literally watching Netflix together uninterrupted. Whatever your ideal date is, go for it! There’s no right or wrong. No textbook way of celebrating Valentine’s Day. You define what is right as a couple.
Include the kids if you have any. Love doesn’t necessarily mean just romantic partners. Especially since now you’re home because of this pandemic, make it a family event! Make breakfast together or have the kid’s favorite dinner. Let mom sleep in late. Let dad have the TV to play his Xbox. Anything special is a gift.
Obviously couples will 9 out of 10 have sex. Duh! But even that can be fun! There are millions of games you can do in the bedroom to make this moment different than the day before if you choose. You can even buy each other special gifts related to sex! You’re probably thinking of toys, okay if you’re down with that type of thing. But you can include Love Coupons into your life. You gift your love one with coupons that could be used whenever you choose. Some are on the naughty side like “fantasy roleplay” and others are more on the romantic side like “movie night.”
You can’t really go wrong on love holiday. Just pay attention to what your partner wants and take cues from him or her. You can also ask, “hey babe, what do you want to do for Valentine’s Day?” Not everything has to be a surprise or even a date night out. Maybe he or she is content with a quiet night in watching movies or binge watching a show.
It’s good to remember that not everything has a price tag attached. If all else fails, Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid are always there to rescue you! Just have fun and be creative!
