Ready-made Party decorations or DIY?

Themed parties have always been a thing. Your parents would buy everything Spiderman or Minnie Mouse from the table cloths, candle, goodie bag and plates. Today, those supplies have evolved to nicer and broader options, but it’s considered the easiest way to go. Then you have us do-it-yourself type people who will spend hours designing, cutting, and gluing to make sure our vision is 100% spot on. So what do you do? Go with ready-made party decorations or DIY?

Let’s brainstorm shall we? Because both sides have major selling points and drawbacks.

Pros and Cons of using ready-made decorations.
Pros and Cons of making your own party decorations (DIY).

Lately, I’ve been mixing both because my OCD will only allow me to execute flawless events that look exactly as I envisioned. BUT, I don’t always have enough time to do everything myself. So I pick and choose what I will make myself and what I’ll buy as filler. Why reinvent the wheel if it already exists?

I typically make my own cake toppers and goodie bag vehicle. After making a few birthday banners, it’s not worth the work and hassle. Banners I will definitely buy ready-made.

Let me show you how it can be done.

Disney Princess Birthday - Cake Table

My daughter wanted a Disney Princess party and Party City actually saved my ass. I couldn’t really find nice princess pictures on Google for centerpieces, but they already had a castle centerpiece with all of the princess cut outs for $9.

Two birthday banner options in one package that were perfect for front of the table and behind the food table. They also had the princess door decor kit that I scattered the around the room at every entrance.

All I did were the goodie boxes and cake topper. I even brought the figurines for the cake. Again, why go crazy if it’s already available somewhere?

Browse around what is already out there. Check Amazon and Walmart for party inspiration. Buy what works for you and then make whatever you couldn’t find or need.

Party City was always a good place to start, but they’re going out of business. Definitely recommend hitting up the stores to stock up on supplies for future events. Already got my birthday decorations for 2025 parties and I’ll, of course, fill in the gaps with DIY. I’m a firm believer of stocking up on things and using them when the time is right. Go get party favors, plates, utensils, balloons, table decor and more.

Party City Close Out Sale

I use this logic for everything. I’m already buying things for Valentine’s Day, Easter baskets and probably goodie bags in the future. If I see something good for my girls. Best to prepare in advance, dontcha think?
