Valentine’s day is known as the day of love. You think about your husband, wife, and partner. But think about it, it’s about love. You love other members of your family, your friends (Galentine’s day anyone?) and your kids!
So how do you celebrate Valentine’s day with your kids?

Just like any other day! Let me show you.
You spend your day keeping them alive, feeding them, playing with them, maybe doing some crafts, running errands where you end up buying them a toy or getting McDonald’s. It’s really nothing out of the ordinary.
I know in my kids schools they do parties, share Valentine day cards, little tokens of friendship. So let’s do the same at home.
Do something special that day or the weekend before if it doesn’t work out for your schedule. Because hey, you can actually have adult plans on the 14th.
Now what do you do with them?
- Make someone a Valentine.
- We’re a crafting bunch and like to make people valentine cards and gifts. Since my girls are daddy’s girls, we spend our time making something for dad. When that is done too early, then comes grandmas and aunts and cousins. We whip out the craft kit, make a bunch of hearts, cut paper, glue goes everywhere, and just have fun!
- Take a page out of the Christmas activities and bake!
- In my family, food is a major token of affection. Instead of buying treats, we make them. Cookies, and cupcakes. Decorate them red, pink and purple. We get sprinkles everywhere but they have a blast. Then we eat them ourselves or wrap them up for others.
- Scavenger hunt in the house?
- Again, Valentine’s day isn’t a very active holiday for kids like Christmas or Easter. They love a good egg hunt. So have they hunt for treats and their little gifts around the house. You can do cards with hints if they’re old enough. Or visual clues. Depending on your kids age this could be really fun or an epic disaster. Choose wisely lol
- Chill at home
- Kind of a foreign concept for some but you have no idea how much fun you can have at home with your kids. You don’t have to go out and deal with attitudes and tempers, when you can have that in the privacy of your own home. Watch all the Disney Princess movies or every Avengers movie in order. Whatever your kids want, let it happen! You just want to spend quality time with them and put the phone down. Eat popcorn, order pizza, veg out in bed and literally chill in your pajamas with your kids.
- Take them out on a date!
- Your kids may not really understand the significance of Valentine’s day and date night. But you can show them. Get them used to having these special outings on special days. You can go all out and get dressed up and go out to dinner. That wouldn’t really work for my feral children, but I’m down for Chuck E. Cheese or Empire Adventure Park. A fun kid place where they’ll run around, get exhausted and sleep on the way home.
I’m a firm believer of “do whatever works for you.” There’s already enough pressure on parents to do extravagant things with or for their kids because of today’s public society. Forget all of that. Don’t reinvent the wheel or go completely out of your way because it’s February 14th. Everything listed here can be done every day of the year. So if you have to work, already have plans, forgot to buy the cake mix, can’t find the craft kit, or whatever else can come up in our crazy lives, it’s completely okay. That’s where the chill at home and binge tv comes in play!
Just have fun and spend time with your kids. Enjoy them!
